Vice yarns -truly a vice

Look at some of the col colors Vice yarns come in!  We made the boneyard shawl (as seen on Ravelry.). We used one skein but you can use 2 for more for a longer shawl and have any length you want.   We have a nice selection in stock now so come check out The Yarn Basket or call (712-792-2890).   Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Gap-tactic with bulky yarn

Having admired the pattern gaptastic on Ravelry for so long, I finally found the perfect yarn to make it with.  The requirements had to be fast, soft and warm and Rowan's alpaca chunky was perfect.  Use a 15 circular needle and cast on 115 stitches for the chunky yarn.  You will love it as well as someone on your Christmas list.

Happy Thanksgiving and now Merry Christmas.   We made this cute wall hanging from a cardinal bird panel.  Fast and easy to make in time for the holidays.

Snug as a "bear"!

Just look at this cute as can be baby blanket to keep your baby (or friend's baby) snug as a bug.   Made with just two skeins of chunky yarn by James Brett, and 10.5 needles so you can make it lickety split for that next baby shower!

Expecting cold temperatures tomorrow, UGH

Since we are expecting the temperature to drop tomorrow and possible bring snow to western Iowa, I thought it appropriate to make a hat and cowl out of a new yarn by Skacel called Mersilca, a wool, silk, cashmere blend.  I used 3 different colors and created a pattern that looks like it is self striping!  The ridges on the hat are made by knitting 3 rounds and then purling 3 rounds.   The cowl is made using a different color each round.  Stay warm!

Wrapped in "wiggle"

Pictured is the Kauni "Wiggle" scarf made using 2 different color ways of Kauni yarn.  A modified chevron pattern that changes colors every two rows so you see the self-striping colors come through.  Make it as long or as wide as you want or follow the pattern as we did and you will have a 16 x 76 inch scarf/shawl.  Really great for this time of year!
